History of Elior Group
In the span of 25 years, Elior Group has experienced spectacular growth. In 2014, it was relisted on the French stock exchange, marking a new chapter in its history. Drawing on the strength of its strategic choices and development potential, Elior Group is continuing down path and is reinforcing its leading positions in its key markets.
2016: in line with the 2020 strategy
November: Elior Group enters India with two simultaneous acquisitions in collective catering: MegaBite Food Services and CRCL.
October: launch of the Group’s CSR strategy, the Elior Group Positive Foodprint Plan™.
September: Elior Group sets up global headquarters in Paris-La Défense (France).
July: acquisition of Waterfall Catering Group, a UK-based leading contract caterer for the education, care and welfare markets.
June: acquisition of Autogrill’s railway stations concession business in France.
June: acquisition of Preferred Meals, a US provider of meals, fresh-prepared snacks and frozen-prepared snacks, entrees, and complete meals for contract catering and home delivery.
April: launch of Areas, Elior Group’s new international brand dedicated to travel catering
March: Elior Group officially adopts new corporate name and celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Elior Group is celebrating its 25th anniversary; the perfect occasion to look back on the key social trends that the Group has successfully anticipated and interpreted in making its mark on the catering market.
February: Elior Group commits to back Paris and becomes official partner of Paris 2024, the bid of the City of Paris to organize the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
January: Elior Group supports ExpoFrance2025, France’s candidature to host the World Fair in 2025.
2015: a new Chairman, a new strategy
November: acquisition of ABL Management, American catering specialist in correctional facilities and higher education.
October: acquisition of Cura Hospitality, American player in healthcare and senior living dining services.
August: acquisition of Starr Restaurant Catering Group (SRCG), a top-of-the-range food service group based in the United States.
July: successful increase of ownership interest in Areas to 100%, enhancing the Group's position as a world leader in concession catering.
March: Philippe Salle appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the Elior group. ELIOR joins the Paris SBF 120 index
2006 – 2014: an international player; selective development in Europe and expansion in the Americas
June: launch of the initial public offering for Elior on the regulated market of Euronext Paris.
Entry into the U.S. contract catering market with the acquisition of TrustHouse Services, No.4 player in the healthcare, education and correctional food services industries.
Acquisition of the family group Ansamble: Elior Group now co-leader of catering and support services in France.
No.1 contract caterer in Italy after Gemeaz takeover.
The Group’s distinct brands (contract and concession catering, support services) are gathered under the umbrella of the Elior brand name.
Takeover of Alessa to reinforce market leadership in Spain.
Acquisition of Sin&Stes, French leader of cleaning and support services for companies. Expansion of activities in France and Germany, in the leisure business.
Robert Zolade appointed Chairman of the Group’s Supervisory Board.
Acquisition of Arce in Spain. Entry in the German concession catering market and deployment in airports and highway food services and catering business in the United States.
Full takeover of Hold and Co, which manages the Paul brand in French and British railway stations. Gradually acquired shares to take 80% majority ownership of MyChef, thus consolidating leadership position in concession catering in Italy.
Acquisition of French catering group Vivae and Italian company Concerta. Takeover of Gatsby in Chile, through Areas.
Acquisition of FMC and GHS (Générale Hôtellerie de Santé) to reinforce the Group’s multi-service offering.
Robert Zolade opens the capital of HBI to 2 investor partners and launches a takeover bid on Elior shares. In December, HBI acquires 100% of the voting rights and of Elior’s share capital. ELIOR is delisted from the stock market.
2000 - 2006: a European player; a geographic expansion in targeted European countries.
The Group gains a 69% majority ownership in Areas’ capital.
Full takeover of Italian subsidiary Risto Chef, renamed to Avenance Italy. In France, acquisition of contract catering company Les Repas Parisiens (LRP), and of Hôpital Service in the healthcare space. In the United Kingdom, acquisition of a 51% majority ownership in Azure, a player in sports venue catering.
Share capital increase of €110m.
Entry into the Paris SBF 120 index. Acquisition of Digby Trout Restaurants, a British concession catering company. Acquisition of 100% of Serunion shares.
The Group becomes a leader in contract catering in Spain through strategic alliances with Areas and Serunion respectively in the concession and contract catering businesses; Subsequent development in Portugal and Morocco, and reinforcement of positions in Central and Latin America.
Entry into Euronext’s first market and Entry into the Paris SBF 250 index. Launch of the Avenance brand in the United Kingdom.
1991 - 2000: a national player; creation of the two major activities in France.
Accelerated development across Europe through acquisitions in the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.
The Group takes the Elior name and separates its activities in France: contract catering with the Avenance brand, concession catering with the Eliance brand.
Acquisition of 51% of the capital shares in Holding de Restauration Concédée (HRC), a French concession catering company.
Acquisition of the Drummond Thompson catering company in the United Kingdom.
Signature of a partnership agreement with Catering & Allied, a player in contract catering in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Acquisition of Accor’s remaining interest in Générale de Restauration and establishment of the Spanish concession catering company Elite Aeropuertos.
First step in concession catering with an equity participation in the company Elitair.
The Group is founded by Francis Markus, Robert Zolade and another 300 managers who joined forces to take a 35% minority ownership in Générale de Restauration, the catering business of Accor Group.
